Veterans Day at Notre Dame: ROTC Vigil

Each Veteran's Day, Army, Navy and Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) cadets keep vigil for 24 hours at the Clarke Memorial Fountain. Cadets have 30-minute shifts, rain or shine. This video, shot in 2021, captures this silent, stirring tribute to the nation's veterans.

The Clarke Memorial Fountain stands as a tribute to those men and women who served in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and during times of peace. Each trilith stands facing one of the cardinal directions with a fountain between its two posts. Each of the wars is engraved on the lintels on their front-facing sides. Within the memorial's center, another fountain sits atop a sphere, representing the Earth.
