Heart of mercy: 2023 Laetare Medalist Sister Rosemary Connelly, RSM

Sister Rosemary Connelly is the former executive director of Misericordia, a Chicago-based not-for-profit agency that offers a community of care that maximizes potential for people with mild to profound developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged. Misericordia means “heart of mercy” in Latin.

In honor of her vision and her compassionate work with the residents of Misericordia for the last 54 years, Sister Rosemary is being awarded the University of Notre Dame's 2023 Laetare Medal, considered the oldest and most prestigious honor given to American Catholics.
